CARPENTER ANTS

Probably the most indigenous wood destroying insect to the Chicagoland area. These ants are easy to identify and if let go can do significant damage to your home. The carpenter ant has 3 body parts. It also appears to have a hairy thorax and a pinched node between the thorax and the abdomen. The main identifier is the pinching mandibles on the top of its head. Yes carpenter ants not only chew wood- they BITE!

CARPENTER BEE

The carpenter bee is easily identified by its big black body. The hover around and are usually found after a person finds mounds of saw dust at the bottom of a perfectly bore hole in lumber.
